3D-printed limestone corals – Sponsored by Villeroy&Boch and Festo
We consider our project as a sustainable, technology-driven and strongly network-oriented alternative to vanishing coral reefs. Our method allows to create 3D-printed limestone corals that can be settled on seabeds by using natural material which even offers nutrients. The production process does neither destroy resources nor produce harmful substances and has short delivery routes. ECO-CORAL goes beyond a purely functional aspect of forming a habitat for marine flora and fauna and marine microorganisms. This benefits not only the marine population, but also the commercial world and "third world countries", which depend on tourism and fishing.
